Balance Training / Proprioception

Training for balance and joint position sense — whether the goal is staying steady on your feet or trusting an ankle again.

About balance training / proprioception at Peak

Proprioception is your body's sense of where it is in space. It is what lets you catch yourself on uneven ground without looking down, and it is reliably disrupted after an ankle sprain, a knee injury, or a long period of reduced activity.

For older adults, this work focuses on confidence and stability: standing, turning, stepping over obstacles, and recovering when footing is lost. We use standardized measures so progress is something you can see rather than guess at, and the home program is built to be done safely without supervision.

For athletes, the same system is trained toward sport — single-leg control, landing mechanics, and reacting to unpredictable footing. It is often what stands between an ankle that feels fine walking and one that can be trusted in a game.

What to expect

  1. Standardized balance testing so there is a baseline to measure against.
  2. Training matched to your goal, whether that is household stability or sport.
  3. Progression from stable to unstable and from predictable to reactive.
  4. A home program designed to be done safely on your own.
  5. Retesting so you can see what has changed.
