Braces and Taping
Bracing and athletic taping for support and stability, with guidance on when to use them and when to stop.
About braces and taping at Peak
Braces and athletic tape both do the same basic job: add external support to a joint that cannot yet provide enough of its own. Used well, they let you keep working or competing while the underlying problem is addressed.
We help select and fit appropriate bracing, and apply athletic taping for support during activity. Just as importantly, we will show you how to apply tape yourself, since a technique that only works when you are in the clinic is not much use during a season.
Support is meant to be temporary in most cases. Part of this work is being clear about what the brace or tape is doing, what it is not doing, and what has to improve before you can wean off it.
What to expect
- A discussion of whether support is appropriate for your situation at all.
- Fitting and selection of an appropriate brace where one is warranted.
- Taping applied and then taught, so you can do it yourself.
- A clear explanation of what the support is and is not doing.
- A plan for weaning off support as capacity improves.
